I Finally Got Tagged!

I’ve been lurking in the background of Team Tough Chiks.  Reading everyone else’s blog post containing “11 Random Things About Me”.  Until finally, Brandy over at Pounds to Miles tagged me.  So here we go….

  1. Post these rules.
  2. You must post 11 random things about yourself.
  3. Answer the questions set for you in their post.
  4. Create 11 new questions for the people you tag to answer.
  5. Go to their blog and tell them you’ve tagged them.
  6. No stuff in the tagging section about you are tagged if you are reading this. You legitimately have to tag 11 people.

So here we go: 11 Random Things About Me:

  1. I know how to write in Calligraphy.  Only one font though.  I learned from my Aunt Judy.
  2. I was married once for 375 days.  Yes, you read that correctly.  375 Days!  I tried it and didn’t like it.
  3. I can’t cook without a recipe.  I’m best friends with my microwave.
  4. My first job was “walking the beans” on my family’s farm in Iowa.  I think I earned $3 an hour.  I was 11 or 12.
  5. I didn’t get my Bachelor’s Degree until 2001.  Fifteen years after high school.  I got my Master’s three years later in 2004.  My mom calls me a “Late Bloomer”!
  6. I spent 8 years in the U.S. Air Force.  I joined during Desert Storm in 1991, and I saw the world – Mississippi, Hawaii, Guam, Japan, Italy, Germany, Austria, and finally settled in Colorado.
  7. I love watching Nick @ Night!
  8. I was in the color guard in high school.  Guess that’s why I did so well at marching in the A.F.
  9. I have worked two jobs on-and-off for 10 years.  Not for the money, but because I’ve always enjoyed working retail sales.
  10. I used to be a cat person – “Patches” was my huge cat for years.  Now I don’t think I could live without my dogs.
  11. I have lived in Colorado for over 12 years and I don’t know how to ski!

Here’s Brandy’s questions and my answers:

1. What type of shoe do you prefer to run in  and why?

I have honestly tried every brand of running shoes.  So much so that my running coach told me to “pick one and stick with it”.  Right now, I am running in the Asics Gel-Cumulus 13’s.  I’m a heavier runner who needs some cushioning and arch support.  When I head off on the trails, I’m trying the Brooks Cascadia 7 Trail-Running Shoes.  They offer some support and aggressive lugs maximize grip on the trail.  Love the blue color too!

2.  Salty or Sweet? Favorite snack?

I could sit and eat an entire bag of anything containing chocolate.  My weakness has to be Peanut Butter M&M’s.

3. Why do you run?

I am amazed at what my body can do when it’s properly trained.  I never thought I’d run a marathon, let alone six!  I’m not fast, but I finish.  I started running for my best bud’s mom and continued running for Chase Away K9 Cancer.  I’ve lost two Rotties to the disease.

4.  If you could only take 3 items with you on an island what would it be and why?

Chapstick – nuff said!  My dogs, because I can pass hours with them and they are so entertaining.  A good chef – come on – a girl’s gotta eat!

5.  Favorite website(s)?

I can spend hours on Sierra Trading Post.  I have a shopping addiction.  I don’t have to buy anything, just put things in my cart.  I know, I need help!

6.  Do you having a running mantra and if so what is it?

Yes.  My dog’s didn’t quit on me (when they were sick) so I’m going to keep running for them (and a cure)!

7.  Are your currently reading anything  (other than this) and if so what?

I have three books going right now.  On the coffee table, I have “Run Your Butt Off” by the editors at Runner’s World and “Running the Edge” by Adam Goucher and Tim Catalano.  My bedside table has “Running for Women” by Kara Goucher.

8. Do you run with music, if so whats your favorite tune to run to?

When I’m training and racing, I use Podrunner.  Great podcast on iTunes.  If I’m just out for a casual run, I love the big hair rock bands of the 80’s!

9. What inspires you?

My mom isn’t a runner.  She doesn’t understand why I do it.  However, she’s been through so much in her life and she keeps moving forward.  I know we don’t always get along, but she inspires me to keep going when I feel like giving up.

10.  If you could go anywhere in the world on vacation where would you go?

I’ve been to the islands.  I’ve been to Europe.  I’d love to go to Alaska!

11.  Do you have a favorite clothing item that you like to run in?

I love my Nike running hat.  I have been running in the same white/black Nike running hat for years.  Okay I have two of them; one got too funky smelling to wear anymore.  I have way too many pictures of me in them though.  I may have to rethink them this summer.

And I’m not going to play by the rules right now because I can’t seem to find anyone left to tag.  Now this could change in the future, but for now…Enjoy!  Happy miles everyone!

  1. I knew there was a reason (or several) why we are friends! I LOOOVE peanut m&ms…and putting things in my shopping cart. There’s a sense of accomplishment even if you never actually check out 😛

About your marriage–you outlasted Kim Kardashian, Britney Spears, and scores of others. That alone is an accomplishment 😛

    See you soon!

  2. Fascinating facts about you – what an interesting life you have led! You have been fortunate to be able to travel and see so many countries. Tall person’s career in international development took him to many countries and many cultures – he said you learn a lot about yourself when you travel.

It is a great accomplishment to be able to write in Calligraphy!

I love to hear from friends!
