Just Breathe…

Sometimes I have to take a break.  Time to think about what I’m doing, where I’m going, why…  Usually I go for a run.  A good long run.  But my heart just wasn’t in it this past week.  Cold and snowy.  Among other things.

A friend of mine passed away last week.  I’d worked with him on a couple contracts.  I knew him more from the passings we had on the trails and roads.  You see he was a runner.  A good runner.  He was out there at the same times our running team would be and that was OH-dark-thirty on Saturday mornings.  He loved it while I tolerated it.  He had nil body fat while I’m carrying an extra *ackhem* pounds.  He had a heart attack at work.  Really puts things in perspective.  I will miss seeing you, Mike.

Then I find out about Whitney Houston.  Poor Whitney.  She made some bad choices after all of her success and her body couldn’t take it anymore.  I grew up with her music and she will be missed.  My deepest sympathy to her family and friends.

And the final news…As most of my friends know, I’m big into dog rescues and saving dogs.  Well someone who did the same was doing just that when she lost her life.  Catherine Bugg was a volunteer who helped transport rescued dogs.  She was helping out Elyse, an eight week old puppy, get from NM to TX when she hit ice on I-40.  Her car crashed and caught fire.  Both she and Elyse died in the crash.  Now I never met Catherine or had ever heard of her before Saturday, but it still hurts.  Prayers to her family and friends, and those who got to know that little puppy.

Really puts things in perspective…doesn’t it.  Pull the ones you love close to you today, every day.  Take time for you and your family this Valentine’s Day.  Happy miles everyone!

  1. I am sorry to hear the sad news about your friend Mike. It is not fair that someone as fit and healthy as he passed away. As you say, it does put things in perspective and reminds us that we should value each moment.

I love to hear from friends!
